About Us

We are located in Northeastern New Hanover County (Wilmington, NC).  Our Stewardship area consists of thirteen thousand acres lying between US Highway 17 and the Atlantic Ocean. It contains tidal marshes, a barrier island, and the watersheds of four tidal creeks- Futch, Pages, Little and Howe. We have sponsored UNCW research to study and establish the quality of the natural resources. We act to protect the quality of healthy resources and act to upgrade the quality of those impacted. We have approximately one thousand five hundred acres protected by ownership and easement, and have converted thirty-eight acres of polluted water to shellfish harvest quality. We have located and helped New Hanover County purchase several pieces of water front properties to be conserved. The conservancy monitors proposed zoning changes and developments that may impact our region.
